An internal Interior Department document, leaked to the press in February, 2010, showed 14 areas under preliminary consideration to be named as national monuments by President Obama. This included the Bodie Hills of California.

California’s Bodie State Historic Park preserves an old gold mining town in a state of “arrested decay.” Near the Nevada border and east of the Sierra, Bodie presents a slice of the old west.
